About the design
I wanted to play around with the idea that Flickr is an image site, but didnt want to get too cheesy. So the graph is a horizontal image with a slight drop shadow and tab-like icons underneath.
Originally, I wanted to have the data lines sort of drip or trickle down into the fill color of the icons. I know that sounds a lot more interesting but the way the data lines overlap didn't allow enough space for that.
I like the icons although I'm not too jazzed about the purple colour. Oddly enough I think I like purple less than any other colour. Maybe I have a deeply rooted stigma from Barney. I hated that show as a child, he's even more terrifying now.
About the information
Its not too shocking that the iPhone is number two, considering most people that can afford a Xti probably have an iPhone too. I wonder what other types of electronics people have...making an infographic on that wouldnt be too bad.
Anyways, The Flickr graph changes slightly overall everyday which is questionable and interesting. But the iPhone did indeed jump the XTi. The LA Times wrote about it here.
